How it started:
Having spent all my working life, mainly as a carpenter moving on to site and project management, in the construction industry, I was always concerned at the number of materials, particularly wood, being discarded and felt that something could be done to make use of these products rather than them ending up in landfill or being burned.
I started collecting all the pieces that I knew could be used to make useful and, sometimes, unique items.
Initially it was offcuts of timber, mostly softwoods, then as time passed and I progressed from new build to major refurbishment and alteration works I was able to save hardwoods such as old oak pub bar tops, solid wood kitchen worktops and other salvageable timbers.
So, after amassing a substantial quantity of materials, in my spare time as work and other commitments would allow, I started making various items, initially for my own use. These included coffee tables, tealight holders, plant stands, wall art, bowls, clocks, coasters (wood and slate) with personalized logos or names laser engraved.
Eventually word got out that I was making items from reclaimed materials and subsequently was commissioned to make bespoke items for others.
Not just wood.
Eventually, I found that I could include other materials to use in my designs e.g. hat and coat stand made using internal copper tubing from an old copper hot water cylinder, discarded clear acrylic display cabinets
made coasters engraved with various designs.
To conclude:
If anyone out there has a design, or idea of their own, that they would like to have converted into something unique, knowing that it will be made to a very high standard, using reclaimed wood. Please let me know.
